Accessibility

This is an eye surgeon’s website — it should be usable by people with a wide range of vision. We build to recognised accessibility standards and welcome reports of anything that gets in your way.

Our aim

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. Because this is a practice for people with eye conditions, legibility and robustness matter more here than anywhere.

What is in place

  • Semantic HTML with a logical heading order, so screen readers can navigate the structure.
  • A “Skip to content” link, full keyboard operability, and a visible focus outline on every interactive element.
  • An accessible mobile menu with clear labelling, and a footer that carries the full site navigation without relying on scripts.
  • Text that reflows without horizontal scrolling down to small screens, and tap targets sized for touch.
  • Support for reduced motion: if your system asks for less animation, entrances become static and looping effects stop.
  • The site remains readable and usable with JavaScript turned off.
  • Colour combinations chosen to meet AA contrast, with meaning never carried by colour alone.
  • Real, descriptive alternative text on meaningful images; decorative graphics hidden from assistive technology.

Known limitations

  • Location maps come from Google and appear only if you choose to show them; their accessibility is outside our control. Each location also has a written address and a plain link.
  • Links to scientific publications and hospital websites lead to content published by others, which may not meet the same standard.
  • This statement is based on a self-assessment by the website’s developer; no independent audit has been carried out yet.
