Alongside his clinical and surgical practice, Dr Asterios Diafas is actively involved in clinical research, with a particular scientific interest in ocular oncology and retinal diseases.

His research focuses on advancing the understanding, contemporary diagnosis, and optimisation of the management of complex ophthalmic conditions, with the aim of contributing to the advancement of modern Ophthalmology and translating scientific knowledge into everyday clinical practice.

He has contributed to research studies published in international peer-reviewed journals, including Retina, Ophthalmology, and Eye, and has presented his research at national and international scientific conferences.

Research interest

The research work of Dr Asterios Diafas focuses on ocular oncology, vitreoretinal surgery and retinal diseases, as well as contemporary ophthalmic imaging technologies.

Particular areas of interest include uveal melanoma, ocular radiotherapy, macular diseases, and the application of artificial intelligence in diagnosis and personalised treatment.

Through his involvement in clinical studies and research collaborations, he aims to translate scientific knowledge into modern, evidence-based approaches that ultimately benefit patients.
