YAG laser capsulotomy

YAG laser capsulotomy is a modern, painless and non-invasive treatment for posterior capsule opacification, which can develop after cataract surgery.

Using a specialised laser, a small opening is created in the cloudy capsule behind the intraocular lens, allowing light to pass freely through to the retina once again.

Who it is for

YAG laser capsulotomy is indicated for patients who develop posterior capsule opacification after cataract surgery and experience:

  • Blurred or reduced vision
  • Glare or increased sensitivity to bright lights
  • Reduced visual clarity following an otherwise successful cataract surgery

The need for treatment is assessed following a comprehensive eye examination, as similar symptoms may also be caused by other eye conditions.

What to expect

The treatment is performed in the clinic, following pupil dilation and the application of specialised eye drops.

The laser is precisely applied to the posterior capsule, without an incision or contact with the intraocular lens. The procedure usually takes only a few minutes and is painless.

Temporary blurred vision or light sensitivity may occur afterwards, while vision generally improves gradually. You will receive personalised instructions, and a follow-up appointment will be arranged when necessary.
